Acne Phototherapy
Patients with mild to moderate inflammatory acne can benefit from acne clearance with the SpectraClear TM. Bacteria named P. acnes cause one component of the inflammatory process seen in acne. This bacterium fortunately produces a porphyrin molecule, which will react with the light produced by SpectraClear TM device that results in a photodynamic reaction. This reaction leads to the production of an oxygen free radical that will destroy the bacteria. Acne Phototherapy may be the saving grace for patients who are unable to tolerate oral antibiotics, hormonal therapy, or topical antibiotics for the treatment of their acne.
