Diagnostics- Allergy and Toxicity

Allergy Testing

Food allergies can be life threatening.  IgG and IgE antibodies can be tested with our various assays.  IgG antibodies are responsible for a “delayed reaction” which can contribute to chronic health problems. IgE antibodies are known as “immediate “allergic reactions.  These reactions can cause anaphylaxis.  Unfortunately, anaphylaxis can kill.  A reaction may begin within minutes or even seconds of exposure and rapidly progress to cause airway constriction, intestinal irritation, and altered heart rhythms. In severe cases, it can result in complete airway obstruction, shock, and death.

The Bloodspot IgG4 Food Antibody Profile (Delayed Sensitivity)

We offer a simple food antibody profile based on a finger stick in which 30 different foods are tested and responses are categorized by severity from borderline to mild, moderate, or severe on the report.

Serum Testing of IgE Antibody Profile ( Immediate Sensitivity)

According to the FDA, more than 160 foods can cause allergic reactions in people with food allergies. The eight most common foods accounting for 90 percent of food allergic reactions are required by law to be listed in the ingredients, and are the food sources from which many other ingredients are derived. We offer an allergy profile which will test potential reactions to 90 different foods and an IgE inhalant antibody profile to measure the IgE levels in serum that react to different regional inhalant antigens.

There are 8 foods that commonly cause allergic reactions:

Milk

Eggs

Fish

·

·       Crustacean shellfish (e.g. crab, lobster, shrimp)

Tree nuts

(Almonds, walnuts, pecans)

Peanuts

Wheat

Soybeans

Diagnostics- Environmental Toxins

Porphyrin Profile- Urine

The Porphyrin Profile evaluates the biomarkers of toxicity. Patterns of specific porphyrin elevations in urine may serve as functional markers of toxicity from toxic metals, such as mercury, lead, arsenic, or other organic chemicals.

Polychlorinated Biphenyl Testing

The Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) Profile can help identify which of the most toxic PCBs a patient has been exposed to and the body burden of the patient. We look at the most commonly found PCBs, which have national reference ranges that have been documented to cause adverse health problems. Levels are given both in parts per million.

Nutrient and Toxic Elements 6-8 hour Urine

Some elements can accumulate in tissues causing toxic effects. Metal toxicity is a significant environmental health concern. A toxic load of lead, cadmium, mercury or arsenic is capable of rendering considerable damage to the brain and nervous system, particularly in children. Toxic elements produce their many negative effects through various mechanisms

Nutrient and Toxic Elements - Hair

Hair has a long history of successful use in detecting chronic exposure to toxic heavy metals in humans and animal models because hair concentrates heavy metals several hundred fold above concentrations found in blood. When any of the toxic heavy metals are elevated in hair, there is reason to investigate the origin of exposure. High levels in hair may reflect early chronic exposure before other signs and symptoms appear.
